Sophia, owner and master stylist of SoKai Salon was born in Jamaica, W.I. She migrated to New York City at an early age. She was fascinated with styling hair very early in her childhood. She was able to cut and style her mother’s and her mother’s friends’ hair without training. At fourteen, her fascination was actualized when she began working at a hair salon after school and on weekends. She became more engrossed in this field and began to create more professional looking hair styles for family members. While in high school, she also worked as a receptionist in an upscale hair salon in the east village of NYC. Sophia cut and styled her own hair for her high school prom. Sophia attended Boston University for two years and left to pursue her love for doing hair. She attended hair school in NYC and worked for several years as a master stylist in two hair salons. My journey as an esthetician began in 2005, while attending the International School of Skin, Nailcare and Massage Therapy (ISSN) in Atlanta. Besides being a licensed esthetician in the State of Georgia, I have received certification in microdermabrasion, microcurrent therapy, LED light therapy, and chemical peels. I continue to stay on top of the latest trends and knowledge in skin care by regularly attending post-license classes with the International Dermal Institute (IDI) and the Dermalogica Institute. During my time working for various spas and retailers along with a variety of skin care lines throughout the Atlanta area, I also learned a great deal about products and ingredients. I use this knowledge to assist and instruct my clients in helping their skin to look and feel its very best. Overall skin health and beauty for my clients through the use of the right products and techniques is a priority in my practice.
